Research Interests.
Teacher Development
Experiences of new prison educators. Initial teacher training for new prison educators. Ongoing professional development for correctional educators (i.e., building a community of practice).
Continuity of Services
How to transfer students between institutions without compromising or delaying their educational paths and goals. Addressing long institutional wait-lists and the impact on inmates with frequent transfers or shorter incarceration periods.
Issues of Re-entry
How momentum built through education while incarcerated can encourage and feed into post-release support and success. The importance of relationship: how healthy “inside” relationships can continue upon release, and how healthy “outside” relationships can be fostered from inside the institution. Collaboration and partnership between the “inside” and the “outside” worlds to enable a better transition. Enabling students to continue with their education upon release to the community without significant barriers.
Curriculum Development
Specially designed curriculum for prison and alternative settings, both self-study and classroom based. Alternative methods of delivery to adapt to security restrictions and increase access to education.
